The Beginning
Northgrove began with a frustration. The founders — designers who had spent years specifying hardware for high-end residential projects — found themselves repeatedly disappointed by the gap between what was available and what they wanted. The market was full of brass-coloured objects: fixtures made from zinc or aluminium, finished with a thin electroplated coating that mimicked the appearance of brass without possessing any of its qualities. Beautiful in a showroom, disappointing in a home, and destined to fail within a decade.
The alternative — genuine solid brass fixtures made with real craft — existed, but it was either prohibitively expensive or difficult to source in the quantities and with the consistency that design projects require. There was a gap in the market for solid brass hardware that was genuinely handcrafted, genuinely beautiful, and genuinely accessible to the designers and homeowners who wanted it.
The Marrakech Connection
The answer to that gap was found in Marrakech. The medina of Marrakech has been a centre of brass and copper metalworking for centuries — the skills, the tools, and the traditions are all present in the workshops of the souk, passed from master to apprentice across generations. What was missing was a connection between those workshops and the international design market that was increasingly hungry for the kind of authentic, handcrafted objects they produced.
Northgrove was built on that connection. We work directly with master craftsmen in Marrakech, commissioning pieces that are designed to meet the standards of contemporary interior design while being made with the techniques and materials of the Moroccan metalworking tradition. Every piece is made by hand, from solid brass or copper, in the same workshops that have been producing metalwork for the riads and palaces of Morocco for a thousand years.
What We Make
Our range covers the full spectrum of residential hardware: bathroom faucets and fixtures, kitchen hardware, lighting (pendant lamps and wall sconces), mirrors, cabinet hardware, and decorative objects. Every piece is available in unlacquered brass — our signature finish — as well as in several patinated finishes that replicate the appearance of aged brass and copper at different stages of their natural aging process.
We do not make products that are designed to be replaced. Every Northgrove piece is made from solid material, with the expectation that it will be used daily for decades and will become more beautiful with every year of use. This is not a marketing position — it is a design philosophy that shapes every decision we make, from the alloys we specify to the wall thickness of our faucet bodies to the quality of the ceramic cartridges inside our taps.
The Future
We believe that the future of interior design belongs to objects that are honest about what they are made of, that age with grace rather than deteriorating, and that carry the evidence of human skill in their making. In a world of disposable objects and artificial finishes, solid brass made by hand is not a nostalgic choice — it is a radical one. It is a refusal to accept the premise that objects should be cheap, interchangeable, and temporary.
Every Northgrove piece is a small act of resistance against that premise. It is an investment in quality over quantity, in permanence over disposability, in the beauty of honest materials over the illusion of perfection. We are proud to make objects that will outlast the people who install them, and we are grateful to every customer who shares our belief that the things we surround ourselves with matter — not just functionally, but morally and aesthetically.
