The art of the
living finish

Every Northgrove piece is crafted from solid, unlacquered metal — never plated, never coated. Each finish is alive, evolving with time and touch to develop a patina that is uniquely yours.

Our Signature Material

Unlacquered
Solid Brass

Composition: 100% Solid Brass · Cu 60–65%, Zn 35–40%

Our signature material — 100% solid brass left deliberately unlacquered. Unlike plated or coated alternatives, unlacquered brass is a living material that develops a rich, warm patina over time. Each piece begins with a bright golden hue and gradually deepens to a distinguished antique tone. The process is gradual, entirely natural, and entirely unique to each piece and environment.

Patina Timeline Begins 2–4 weeks; full character over 6–12 months
Durability Exceptional — does not chip, peel, or flake
Maintenance Soft cloth wipe; occasional brass polish to restore shine
Character Warm gold → rich amber → deep antique bronze

Heritage Warmth

Aged
Copper

Composition: 100% Pure Copper

Hand-finished copper with an accelerated patina that evokes decades of heritage. Our artisans use traditional Moroccan techniques to achieve a deep, warm brown-copper tone with subtle green undertones in the recesses. The finish continues to evolve naturally, deepening and gaining complexity with each passing season.

Patina Timeline Pre-aged; continues deepening over 3–6 months
Durability Excellent — naturally antimicrobial and highly resilient
Maintenance Dry cloth; avoid harsh chemicals; beeswax to preserve
Character Warm brown-copper with evolving green verdigris

Artisan Texture

Hammered
Brass

Composition: 100% Solid Brass, Hand-Hammered

Each piece is hand-hammered by our master metalworkers, creating a textured surface that catches and plays with light in constantly shifting patterns. The hammering process is both structural and decorative — it work-hardens the brass while creating the distinctive dimpled surface that makes each piece entirely one-of-a-kind.

Patina Timeline Uneven tonal variation within 4–8 weeks
Durability Superior — hammering increases structural integrity
Maintenance Soft cloth; texture holds less dust than smooth finishes
Character Multi-tonal gold; each hammer mark unique

Contemporary Warmth

Brushed
Copper

Composition: 100% Pure Copper, Directionally Brushed

A contemporary interpretation of traditional copper finishing. Fine directional brushing creates a satin-like surface with a subtle linear grain that softens copper's natural reflectivity while maintaining its warm, rosy tone. The brushed grain remains visible as the patina develops, creating a layered visual depth that rewards close inspection.

Patina Timeline Gentle even patina over 2–3 months; grain remains
Durability Excellent — resistant to fingerprints and minor scratches
Maintenance Wipe along grain direction; avoid circular motion
Character Satin rosy copper; linear grain deepens with age
