Description

Most pendant lights announce themselves. This one waits. The cylinder hangs in silence — no flare, no dome, no decorative gesture — and then you turn it on, and the room changes.

The form is deceptively simple: a straight-sided cylinder of solid unlacquered brass, hand-hammered across its entire surface by craftsmen in the medinas of Marrakech. The hammering is not decorative in the conventional sense. Each dent is a facet, and each facet catches light at a slightly different angle. When the bulb is lit, the cylinder becomes a lantern of fractured gold — not a single glow but hundreds of small reflections, shifting as you move around the room. The shadow it casts on the ceiling is not a circle but a constellation.

The cylinder form has a particular relationship with scale. At 8 inches in diameter it reads as intimate — a single pendant above a reading chair, a bedside table, a small kitchen island. At 10 inches it holds its own above a dining table for two, or clustered in a group of three above a longer surface. At 14 inches it becomes architectural — a statement piece in an entrance hall or above a large dining table, where its vertical proportion draws the eye upward and makes the ceiling feel higher than it is.

The finish is unlacquered brass, which means it is alive. In the first weeks it is bright and golden. Over months it deepens — first to a warm amber, then to the darker, richer tone of old brass. The hammered surface accelerates this process unevenly: the raised points of each hammer mark stay brighter longer, while the recessed areas darken first, creating a depth of tone that a flat surface could never achieve. No two cylinders age identically. Yours will develop its own particular character based on the light it receives, the air in the room, and the hands that occasionally touch it.

Socket is E27, compatible with LED, halogen, and incandescent bulbs. The 4-foot cord is standard; custom lengths are available — specify at checkout. Dimmable with a compatible dimmer switch. Five-year warranty. Allow 3–5 days production before dispatch.

Master artisan hand-forging brass in a Marrakech workshop

FROM OUR WORKSHOP

Crafted by Hand in Marrakech

Every Northgrove piece begins as raw solid brass, shaped by the hands of master artisans in the ancient medina of Marrakech. Using traditional techniques refined over centuries — hand-hammering, sand-casting, and meticulous finishing — our craftsmen transform raw material into functional works of art.

This is not mass production. Each piece carries the subtle marks of its maker — slight variations in texture, weight, and tone that distinguish handcrafted brass from factory-made alternatives. These are the details that make your home unique.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Everything You Need to Know

Can't find what you're looking for? Get in touch — our team typically responds within 24 hours.

What is unlacquered brass and how does it differ from lacquered?

Unlacquered brass is solid brass without a protective clear coat. Unlike lacquered brass, which maintains a uniform shine, unlacquered brass develops a natural patina over time — a living finish that deepens and evolves with use. This is the hallmark of authentic, high-quality brass hardware and is considered a feature, not a flaw.

How do I care for and clean my brass fixtures?

For everyday cleaning, simply wipe with a soft, dry cloth. To preserve the natural patina, avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. If you prefer a brighter finish, a gentle polish with a mixture of lemon juice and baking soda will restore the original lustre. Over time, areas of frequent contact will naturally polish themselves while less-touched areas develop a rich, warm patina.

What are the lead times for made-to-order pieces?

Most pieces are handcrafted to order and require 1–2 weeks for production. Shipping typically takes an additional 5–10 business days depending on your location. We ship worldwide from our workshop in Marrakech. Expedited production may be available for select items — please contact us for details.

Do you offer custom sizes or finishes?

Yes. Because each piece is handcrafted individually, we can accommodate custom dimensions and finish preferences for most items. Custom orders may require additional lead time. Please reach out through our contact page or email us directly with your specifications for a quote.

What is your return and exchange policy?

We accept returns within 30 days of delivery for unused items in their original packaging. Because many pieces are made to order, we ask that you carefully review dimensions and specifications before ordering. If your item arrives damaged, we will replace it at no cost. Please see our full return policy for details.

Do you offer trade pricing for interior designers and architects?

Absolutely. Our Trade Program offers exclusive pricing, priority production, and dedicated support for interior designers, architects, and hospitality professionals. Visit our Trade Program page to learn more and apply. Approved members receive 15–20% off retail pricing on all orders.
